AboutEst. 1916

The Vandekar family opened a showroom more than 100 years ago in Amsterdam. In 1916, the family moved the gallery to London and has been known as Earle D Vandekar of Knightsbridge from the 1970’s. The gallery grew and became well known for carrying high-quality 18th and 19th-century English, European and Chinese Export porcelain and pottery and other decorative arts.

In 1982, Earle’s son, Paul, opened the New York branch where he continues his family’s tradition. After the death of Earle, Paul focused his energies on New York.

In addition to ceramics, Paul has developed an extensive collection of 19th-century British sailors’ woolworks. Earle D. Vandekar of Knightsbridge also carries a fine selection of sets of antique prints and China Trade watercolours. For the last few years, the gallery has also extensively expanded into 20th century decorative arts and has a large selection of Piero Fornasetti ceramics.
